U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will celebrate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day - observed on September 17th with over 200 naturalization ceremonies across the United States. During this time more than 30,000 lawful permanent residents will become America’s newest U.S. citizens. Beginning in 1940 the annual commemoration began as a way to celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17th, 1787.Some of USCIS’ activities will take place at the National Archives in Washington D.C. and will be attended by Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine C. Duke and Acting USCIS Director James W. McCament. Other special judicial naturalization ceremonies are scheduled at courthouses and landmarks nationwide. Many of the ceremonies will also feature President Trump’s new welcome video.USCIS is committed to promoting awareness and understanding of citizenship.
