In 1996, Pabst, a world famous Milwaukee Brewery, closed its doors after over 150 years of operation to begin a new chapter: redevelopment. “With strong support from the City of Milwaukee, the availability of state and federal historic tax credits and other available credits, this site is a unique opportunity for investors,” the brewery’s website boasts. Despite slow global economic conditions, the first redeveloped commercial building in the Pabst project is welcoming its largest tenant while approaching capacity. The renovation of two other buildings is nearing completion. Uses are to include education, commercial, and housing. The development is slated to complete street work, landscaping, and a main parking structure by fall. In the mean time, negotiations continue on remaining properties. Proposed projects include the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Public Health and Hofbrauhaus brew pub & restaurant.
